Keyword Density

Keyword density refers to how frequently a specific keyword appears within content compared to total word count, influencing SEO rankings.

What Is Keyword Density?
Keyword density is a key SEO metric that measures the frequency of a target keyword within a webpage or article. It’s expressed as a percentage and helps content creators determine if a keyword is being used appropriately—or excessively.

How to Calculate Keyword Density:
The formula is:
(Number of times keyword appears / Total word count) x 100

Example:
If your keyword appears 10 times in a 1,000-word article:
(10/1000) x 100 = 1% keyword density

What’s the Ideal Keyword Density?
There’s no exact rule, but generally a keyword density between 0.5% to 2.5% is considered optimal. Anything higher may risk keyword stuffing, which can harm SEO performance.

Why Keyword Density Matters:

  • Ensures keywords are present enough for SEO
  • Avoids keyword stuffing penalties
  • Improves content relevance and targeting
  • Helps with semantic understanding by search engines

Best Practices:

  • Focus on natural keyword placement
  • Use variations and related terms
  • Avoid forced repetition
  • Let the content serve the user first
